Ask the customer/client for specific clothing or colors to make it more personal.Ģ-Set your scale based on the people, rather than on any pre-designed pattern details, such as trees or cacti. They can be in the center or off to one side depending on the building and any landscaping.

Some tips for how to get started with a brick building and family portraitġ-Design the people first! They are the focal point of any Stitch People-style design so they should have the brightest colors and be placed in front of the building.

Once I had the people sketched, I used the height of the tallest person as the height of the doors, and that is how I began to scale the entire project. I’ve tried using Illustrator, but MacStitch just makes it so much easier to move elements around and play with color ideas. I love attention to detail and openness in a client! I used MacStitch to design this pattern.

The owner provided reference photos and was super open and told me that their son is adopted so his skin color is a bit darker than his. I started by designing the family, since they’re the focal point of the entire piece. I love their distinct coffee and their cozy, hip atmosphere, so this gave me more excuses to grab a cuppa joe there! So I was excited (and, quite frankly, shocked) when the owner of one of the best local coffee shops here in Richmond, Virginia contacted me about commissioning a portrait of his family and their shop, Ironclad Coffee. I’ve only been doing this a few years, having started by doing small gifts for friends and family. so i told the program to use as many colors as needed so i could get all the details and differentiation as possible for when i went back through and cleaned up the image.Hey y’all! I’m a full-time speech-language pathologist working in the public schools currently so only have time to stitch at night (thus my company name, Stitch At Nite) - check me out on Instagram, Facebook , and my website. But here the painting doesn't really have gradients of color. Now this isn't perfect, i had to design my friend's ear from scratch because it was just a muddy mess in the generated image. In a lot of my other projects where i've started with a computer generated image (like the pokemon gameboy covers and the card i made for a friend which was a stitched portrait) i limited the number of colors for the program to use so that when i decided to do gradients of around 4 DMC threads in each color story i wouldn't have to edit the computer generated gradients that much, just choose which threads actually looked good in real life. I also told the program to use as many colors as it thought were necessary. I chose the size of the pattern so each of the three panels would be around 7'' x 9'' when stitched on 14 count fabric and i could make the three panels into three different decorative pillows eventually. Both images are overlayed with a warm gradient. Danny is carrying Tim on his back, running very fast while grinning, while Tim is holding on for dear life with his legs stuck straight out and a look of distress on his face, which is drawn in much less detail than the rest of the drawing, being two very large eyes and an open mouth with no other facial features to be seen. He is wearing a yellow tank top with open sides that reads “sting like a bee” in all white caps, and white shorts with a yellow stripe down the side. Danny is thick and buff and has small hoop earrings and a cut in his brow.

He is presumably wearing shorts, but they are not at all visible. He is also wearing lilac-colored socks with two light stripes on them, and purple sneakers. He is wearing a purple tank top that says “float like a butterfly” in all white caps, but the text is partially obscured. Tim is now slim, with his short hair now a bright purple, and he has ear gauges.
